The Danish Dorthe Mailil had a passion for design from an early age, so she naturally ended up at the prestigious Danish School of Design to follow her dream as a graphic designer. Her love for childlike cheerfulness and fantasy therefore resulted in the current Maileg brand that she set up with her husband in 1999. The name Maileg comes from the first part of her surname ('Mai') and the Danish word for play: 'leg'. Since the start of this now enormously popular Scandinavian children's brand, Dorthe has won several awards for her toys and her beautiful illustrations that can be seen worldwide in books, magazines and on TV.
About Maileg
In a busy world of bright lights, bells and whistles, where we are constantly impressed by new stories, Maileg creates a world where mice sleep in matchboxes, you can drink tea with princesses and new adventures are made during a wonderful walk in the woods. It is a world where cats and mice are friends, a world of childlike fantasy that is hugely important. Maileg (pronounced: My'lye), is a Danish toy brand, created to promote and nurture childlike fantasy. The designs are made in such a way that playfulness and love can be found in every small (handmade) detail, thus bringing the personalities to life.
