Finally! After a long autumn and winter period where you often spent a lot of time indoors, spring and summer are finally here! So go outside and enjoy the lovely warm weather!
In the cold weather you have probably dressed your baby nice and warm, with a nice warm hat, a thick blanket and sometimes even a lovely warm heating pad.
But how do you actually keep your baby nice and cool in hot weather?
Baby room
Babies don't cope as well with heat as we do, so it's very important to protect your little one from overheating.
First of all, try to keep the baby's room as cool as possible; did you know that the perfect temperature for a baby's room is between 16-20 degrees?
If you have roller shutters, keep them closed as much as possible during the day, or otherwise keep the curtains closed all day. You could also turn on a small air conditioner during the day or keep the fan on. Make sure that your baby is not in a draft or can get close to the air conditioner or fan.
In warm weather, an airy summer sleeping bag or a large swaddle cloth is very nice as a blanket. Preferably do not use synthetic fabrics, this can cause a lot of sweating. Cotton bedding is really super nice!
Before you go to sleep, check that your little one is not too cold. You can always put a light summer blanket over them.
Stroller
In summer and spring the weather is often wonderful to go out, enjoy a day out or take a nice walk in the area.
When the weather gets warmer, it is no longer necessary to use a thick baby blanket in the stroller. As an alternative, use a nice summer blanket, a nice airy large swaddle or hydrophilic cloth instead of a blanket. These often feel light on the skin and ensure that your little one does not get too cold right away. When the weather is really warm, you can put your baby in the stroller in just the romper or even just in the diaper.
It can get quite warm in the pram body. Try to walk in the shade as much as possible (sometimes much nicer for yourself) and make sure there is enough fresh air in the pram. So don't close it off by hanging a hydrophilic cloth in front of it!
Most strollers have the option of attaching a parasol to protect against the sun, allowing you to lower the hood of the stroller for some fresh air.
Check your baby's hands, feet or neck regularly to make sure he or she is not too hot or too cold. A baby's body temperature can drop very quickly, causing him or her to start getting cold. You can still put a light summer blanket or swaddle over your little one or put on an airy sleeping bag.
And not unimportant, always let your baby drink enough! In addition to breast or bottle feeding, give extra bottles with water.
